Hey thanks lots for the tip! I will most definitely be checking your Illinois program more thoroughly when I actually do applications in the fall. (FYI, I generated the quick list of aforementioned schools by considering this site:

as well as other things about the schools/programs as well. The link it has to IlliGAL is dead, so I didn't get to see the full glory of GA at UIUC! =) Are there any more authorative lists on schools with active GA/GP research groups?)

Ow... I really would like to know what is the meanning of General Engineering. When I saw the name for the first time I went very curious about it. :D But I'll take more information about the subject.

Here in Brazil we have good Universities to do a MSc or a Phd, but the person needs to have caution when choosing a place to go, because some guys in those Universities seem had not read about the "No Free Lunch Theorem". :D

Illinois (IlliGal) seems to be a great place to go, because, at the same time I could get a good base in GA's, I could visit Chicago, that is the homeland of my favourite band: The Smashing Pumpkins!! :D

I would definitely add three schools: The University of Birmingham in the UK (www.cs.bham.ac.uk/), DEMO Lab at Brandeis University (http://www.demo.cs.brandeis.edu/), and York in the UK (http://www.cs.york.ac.uk/nature/index.php).

This list certainly comes handy now that I'm looking for a PhD position ; )
