Rob Smith posting
I'm glad to see Rob Smith and his maiden posts on IlliGAL Blogging. Rob did the first post-renaissance thesis on dynamic environments and GAs in 1987 and his PhD dissertation did a lovely job of trying to advance Holland's notion of a default hierarchy by creating an adaptive scheme to properly place rules in an effective hierarchy without prior assumptions about specificity or the like (Alert, Alert, Alert: This work should be revisited by GBML types. It has been wrongly overlooked, mainly because it was about a decade ahead of its time). Since then, Rob has held a variety of positions in the US and the UK. He currently is at the University of Western England (UWE), and his CV and publications list are available here. One of his most often cited works is his application of learning classifier systems for learning high-performance fighter jet maneuvers.
