Genetic algorithms walking back to their source

There is no point in saying that genetic algorithms were inspired on biological grounds. This is not new. However, currently there is a pushing effort to explore how evolutionary method may be able to go back to the source and help solving hard problems, closing an interesting loop. There are several applications of evolutionary computation in the bioinformatics and biochemist, to mention a few, closing a thirty years loop. Here are two links to interesting results to real applications and results of using evolution as design tools. The first one shows the virtual images of peptides designed using genetic algorithms to block pathogen interactions between proteins---I have been involved in this work. The second links is an interesting paper on another approach proposed to evolving molecules for drug design by James Foster.
